Dependence on one supplier can create exposure to capacity, logistics, weather or packaging disruptions. A second source, however, requires more than obtaining another price; the alternative product must be qualified.

Qualify the second source before a disruption

Samples, technical documents and any required process trial are easier to complete during normal operations.

Confirm specification equivalence

Two salts sold under similar commercial names can differ in particle size, colour, additives or packaging behaviour.

Define volume allocation

A primary/secondary split, minimum annual share or emergency-only model can be established in advance.

Diversify logistics as well as suppliers

A second source that depends on the same port, packaging supplier or transport corridor may not fully diversify risk.
