Export packaging is not only a presentation decision. It affects unit cost, warehouse handling, pallet configuration, container utilization and the buyer’s distribution model. The right format starts with understanding where and how the product will be used.

Retail packs

For consumer-ready products, buyers need to define pack weight, label language, barcode requirements, carton quantity and shelf presentation. Private-label projects should finalize artwork and mandatory destination-market information before production planning.

Commercial and food-service packs

Larger unit packs may suit restaurants, food manufacturers and professional kitchens. As package weight increases, handling methods, pallet stability and workplace requirements should also be considered.

Wholesale bags and larger formats

Industrial or high-volume users may evaluate wholesale bags or larger bulk formats where suitable. Availability should be confirmed for the specific salt type, application and logistics model rather than assumed for every product.

Palletized vs floor-loaded cargo

Pallets can simplify forklift and warehouse operations but reduce some usable payload and volume. Floor loading may improve net product quantity, while requiring an appropriate unloading process at destination.

Seven questions before selecting packaging

  • Is the product consumer-ready?
  • What is the unit pack weight?
  • Are cartons required?
  • Which pallet standard applies?
  • Which label language is required?
  • Is this a private-label project?
  • Full container or smaller shipment?

Describe packaging clearly in the RFQ

Instead of requesting only “25 kg salt,” specify bag type, net weight, palletization, carton or shrink requirements and total quantity. This makes supplier quotations much easier to compare.
