Rock Salt MOQ Guide for Importers and Distributors

MOQ means Minimum Order Quantity: the minimum commercially workable quantity for a specific product and packaging configuration. One universal MOQ for every rock salt order can be misleading because production, packing and logistics requirements differ.

What determines MOQ?

• Product and grain size
• Standard or customized packaging
• Private-label print and labels
• Carton and pallet configuration
• Production setup
• LTL, pallet or container shipment

MOQ for standard packaging

Existing standard packs can often be evaluated differently from customized printed projects. Stock position, pack format and shipping method can still affect the commercial minimum.

Why private-label MOQ can be higher

Custom film, printed bags, labels, cartons and artwork approval can introduce fixed setup and sourcing costs. Private-label MOQ is therefore influenced by the packaging supply chain as well as the salt quantity.

Pallet order or container order?

A distributor entering a new market may prefer a smaller trial order, while an established channel may purchase by full container. Feasibility should be evaluated for the exact product and pack format.

Share annual demand when possible

Providing estimated annual volume helps the supplier plan packaging materials, production capacity and pricing beyond the first order.

Ask the MOQ question precisely

Instead of asking only “What is your MOQ?”, state the grain size, package format, destination market and whether branding is required. This produces a much more useful commercial answer.
