Food Grade Rock Salt Sourcing Checklist for European Buyers

For food manufacturers, a generic “food grade” description is not a complete purchasing specification. Buyers should define application, particle size, composition criteria, packaging and batch documentation.

Attach a technical specification to the RFQ

Define acceptance criteria such as NaCl, particle size and any other parameters relevant to the process, together with the required analytical scope.

Match granulation to the process

Filling, dissolving, grinding and automatic dosing can respond differently to particle-size distribution. Samples and process trials can help with new suppliers.

Batch and analytical traceability

A COA or analytical report should clearly identify the sample or commercial lot it represents. Buyers should define the required parameters in their own specification.

Packaging and labeling

Package weight, food-contact needs, lot identification, pallet configuration and destination-market label requirements should be agreed before the commercial order.
