Terminology varies in practice. What matters is clearly defining who owns the product specification, packaging, artwork, barcode and quality requirements.

Who supplies packaging?

Printed film, bags, cartons or labels may be supplied by either party. MOQ, waste allowance and lead time can change accordingly.

Quality-control points

Raw-material approval, granulation, fill weight, packaging checks, lot coding and pre-shipment inspection can be defined in the project specification.

Change control

Artwork, pack weight and specification changes should include an effective date and a plan for remaining packaging inventory.
